We are expecting students to go to a particular place at a particular time to learn. This is in an age when everything in their lives, such as entertainment, transport and food, comes to them at any time of day. In many ways, the idea of going to a certain place at a certain time to learn seems anachronistic. Why can’t we binge watch our education?

There have been 83 studies that replaced some type of teaching with videos. About 75% of the time students learned more when given a video instead of a class. On average, the effects are small but consistently favour videos. Effects are much larger when videos replace books, or when videos are used to teach skills.
